Successful cross-functional teams require collaborative project leadership (CPL). CPL can be defined as a set of leadership tactics that heighten a sense of unity among cross-functional team members. These tactics encourage team members to:
• Actively share in planning and control processes
• Share management responsibilities
• Understand the importance of social as well as technical skills
• Support the 15 properties of effective cross-functional collaboration
• Identify and resolve conflicts quickly
• Actively listen
• Dispense praise
• Identify staff and resource deficits
• Identify meaningful status measures
• Identify useful tools
One essential CPL tactic focuses on maximizing the effectiveness of cross-functional collaboration by sharing its 15 properties with the team. Speaker Bio
David Gelperin is CTO of ClearSpecs Enterprises. He has more than 50 years experience in software development with an emphasis on requirements, requirements risk management and software quality, verification, and test (SQVT).
During the last 15 years, David has focused on requirements specification, requirements management, and requirements risk management. Dave has been an SQVT coach and instructor (18 yrs), quality support manager (5 yrs), verification lead (2 yrs), project lead (2 yrs), and programmer (5 yrs). He has consulted for both commercial and in-house software development organizations.
In 1986, Dave cofounded Software Quality Engineering (now Techwell) -- the leading provider of software quality information, worldwide -- and catalyzed the launch of Better Software magazine. Dave has written many articles on software engineering, software testing, and software requirements. His articles can be found on researchgate.net. He recently completed a book titled "Understanding Requirements" (understandingrequirements.com).
